Overview
The External ID serves as the cornerstone for linking details from your ORCA template imports. Ensuring a well-structured approach in setting the External ID will significantly benefit your future import processes. The External ID will be a unique ID that represents the ‘Item / Entity’
To note:
- You can match the ID numbers that your Accounting software provides
- You can use letters, numbers, and some characters
- Do NOT input any space in the External ID
- If you leave the External ID field empty in ORCA and export the vault data, ORCA will automatically generate External IDs for you. See the image below for reference.

Where to find the External ID in ORCA
- You can find the External ID in the Card Details of a Person, Entity, or Asset.
- Click on a card in ORCA and it will be located in the first tab of the card called “Details”.

Example External IDs:
- Person: Richard Thomas Miller
- Examples:
- Example #1 = RTM
- Example #2 = 013
- Example #3 = Rich_Thom_Mill
- You may replace the underscore ( _ ) with a dash (-) or period ( . )
- Company Name: Accelerator Tech Fund
- Examples:
- Example #1 = Accelerator_Tech_Fund
- Example #2 = Company0111
- You may replace the underscore ( _ ) with a dash (-) or period ( . )
- Asset: House in Zurich
- Examples:
- Example #1 = House_in_Zurich
- Example #2 = House_123
- You may replace the underscore ( _ ) with a dash (-) or period ( . )
