How to work with CSV in Excel

Overview

This article covers the process of exporting data to Excel in CSV format and transforming comma-separated values into separate columns. It also provides instructions on how to save an Excel file in CSV format and import data from a CSV file into ORCA. Additionally, it includes important notes on CSV separator settings to ensure successful data import. By following these steps, you can ensure that your CSV file is correctly formatted for seamless import into ORCA.

Export Data to Excel

ORCA allows you to export data in a CSV format (comma-separated values). This means that the values are separated with commas and, when working with MS Excel, they are often not sorted into columns. To have a clear tabular view, you can refer to the guide below from Microsoft.

For Windows Users:

  1. Open Control Panel: Click the Windows Start Menu, and select "Control Panel."
  1. Access Regional and Language Options: In the Control Panel, find "Regional and Language Options" and click on it.
  1. Select Regional Options Tab: Within the Regional and Language Options dialog box, navigate to the "Regional Options" tab.
  1. Adjust List Separator: Locate the "List separator" box and change it to a comma (,).
  1. Confirm Changes: Click "OK" twice to confirm the changes.

For Mac Users:

  1. Access Language & Region Settings: Use Spotlight Search to find "Language & Region" and select it.
  1. Advanced Settings: Click on "Advanced" within the Language & Region settings.
  1. Configure Number Separators: Ensure that the number separators for grouping are set to a comma (,).

By following these steps, you'll guarantee that your CSV file is formatted correctly for seamless import into ORCA.
