Understanding Events in ORCA

What Exactly is an Event?

An Event records any change, transaction, or update affecting the people, entities, or assets within your structure. Whether it is a high level ownership transfer or a routine document upload, Events are how ORCA tracks the evolution of your organization over time.

The Sentence Builder

Most Events in ORCA are created using the Sentence Builder. This intuitive tool allows you to document interactions by quite literally building a sentence:

[Entity A] bought [Asset] from [Entity B] on [Date].

Every time you complete a sentence, ORCA automatically generates a corresponding Event in the system.

Types of Events

Events span a broad range of business activities. Common types include:

  • Ownership Events: Changes in shareholding, control, or investment levels.
  • Document Events: Uploads or updates to contracts, certificates, and mandates.
  • Role Events: Track who is involved in the organization and track changes over time.
  • Liability Events: The creation or settlement of debts and guarantees.
  • Cash Flow Events: Dividends, capital injections, or general payments.

Working with the Events Section

The Events Section is your central command center for tracking interactions. Here is how you can manage them effectively:

  • Unified List: View every recorded interaction in one filterable, editable list.
  • Smart Filters: Narrow your view by event type, counterparty, project, or date range.
  • In line Editing: Update details directly in the list or use Edit Mode for bulk changes.
  • Seamless Navigation: Click any event to jump directly to the related person, entity, or asset page.

Why Events Matter

Why bother recording every interaction? Because data is only as good as its context. By maintaining a robust Event log, you unlock the most powerful features in ORCA:

  1. Time Travel: Because every Event is date stamped, you can generate historical or future snapshots of your entire structure. Need to see exactly who owned what on a specific day? Just set the date and Time Travel back or in future.
  1. Audit Trails: Maintain a crystal clear record for compliance, tax reporting, or due diligence.
  1. Data Integrity: ORCA’s Completeness Checks automatically flag missing documents or data gaps based on the Events you have entered.
